This dynamic power point presentation takes the participants through three different case studies—(1) self defense murder case, (2) murder for hire, and (3) sexual allegations?  The participants will watch videos, see crime scenes, look at physical evidence (on screen) and will be presented the various case problems and then asked the questions “What Would You Do?”  After a spirited Q/A the participants will be walked through the various methodologies used in each one of the cases.

15)    Mining the Battlefield

VETERAN AND MILITARY INVESTIGATIONS

Many of our veterans are coming back with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  They served for our freedom, now it is time to serve for theirs!  The dynamic power point presentation will help the attendees understand and develop the mindset it takes to identify factual and mitigation issues in these complex cases.  The participants will actively participate in two case scenarios and learn how to conduct investigative case review and analysis using the methodology of ‘Frame By Frame Analysis.’  The participants will learn the various internet search engines, social media sites, and various creative ways to think outside the box as they learn how to develop the rest of the story.  This program was developed with the assistance of an 8 year US Marine Corps veteran, who worked in the JAG office and understands the records needed, as well as the acquisition process. There will be a Q/A session at the end of the program and the speaker highly encourages audience participation.

About Kevin

Kevin W. McClain is a licensed private investigator in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Wisconsin.  He is a Board Certified Criminal Defense Investigator and President of Kevin W. McClain Investigations Ltd., which is a multi-state investigative firm (Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky and Wisconsin) with 30 investigators that have over 300 years of investigative experience.  He is qualified as an expert in Criminal Investigations, and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.  He has also been a college instructor in personal security.  Mr. McClain began his career in 1993 and gained distinction as one of the regions premier private investigators assisting some of the finest criminal defense and civil attorneys with major felonies, personal injuries, wrongful deaths, excessive force shootings, civil rights investigations, police misconduct investigations, white collar defense investigations, corporate investigations and high profile media cases.  He has been a featured speaker at the national conferences for NLADA “Life in the Balance Capital Defense training seminars in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Florida and St. Louis.  He has the distinction of being part of the defense team on two Illinois Death Penalty cases which were dismissed prior to trial. (First time in Illinois history since Capital Litigation Division was formed in 2000.) Mr. McClain has conducted over (76) Death Penalty investigations as a fact and mitigation investigator around the country including two recent cases one was part of the Angola (5) defendants in Louisiana which resulted in a life sentence and the other which recently concluded (March 2015) was a federal death penalty case where the client was charged with (6) homicides.  The case resulted in a life sentence with one of the homicides getting an acquittal on at the guilt/ innocence stage of the trial.

Most recently Mr. McClain had the honor to present at the NACDL Annual Conference in Palm Beach, Florida. Mr. McClain presented on a very timely subject with his brand new presentation “The Thin Blue Line Investigating Police Misconduct”.
